Recently, GLSEN Washington was selected to send their new Professional Development chair member, Robin Mueller, to GLSEN's national Training of the Trainers (TOT) conference in Dallas, Texas this August. At the TOT, those attending learn how to facilitate and teach GLSEN's Safe Space Kit curriculum, a training filled with informative research, and reflective activities used to aid educators teaching at the middle school and high school levels in creating a safer environment for all students. The overall primary message of the Safe Space Kit is "All students deserve a safe, supportive school environment free of bias-based behavior. Addressing anti-LGBTQ bias in schools makes schools safer for all students, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression."
This specific TOT in Dallas is one of the first few
certified trainings offered since GLSEN National has begun their
official certification process for prospective trainers. Robin reported
zie had an incredible experience being around an entire group of
passionate, respectful people who are eager to help all students thrive
in school. Zie acknowledged what a privilege it was to be selected to
attend the TOT and learn from so many intellectual minds. Robin is very
excited to bring back that knowledge to the trainers and educators in
our very own Washington State!
Shout out to Jenny Betz and Leif Mitchell for the
fabulous facilitation, and all other helping hands involved in making
this TOT possible!
